Management and Information Systems
Week 4 Lecture.-
On Monday morning I attended the lecture of Mr. Bilal Haider about Enhancing Business Intelligence Using ISs in other words Information Systems. Before starting the lecture he showed the whole class a brief video to explain it a little bit. The lecture was quite interesting as I got to learn about the intelligence business organizations need such as understanding big data, as well as the threats and opportunities of those and the continuous planning needed for those big organizations. I also learned that the Database Management System is a software that allows companies to analyze, store, retrieve, and create which much more easiness and also learned the advantages of it and how the effective management of databases work by using the Data Base Administrator (DBA) because this one is one of the key actors who are responsible in creating a successful database. Adding more to it, there was a really interesting point I learnt which was about the Decision Support System (DSS) which consists of decision-making support for recurring problems, and is used by managerial level employees to analyze the results for hypothetical changes, for example, Microsoft Excel. We also watched a short youtube clip regarding this topic. The video was about the Google Headquarters, we were shown how tight the security was for the visitors and also for the staff members, with a very good and organized system to work.
Overall it was a great lecture, I enjoyed it pretty much and I am thankful to the lecturer for learning such important stuff. I know that in the near future this is going to play a pivotal role in having good Information Systems for my organisation.
The lecturer gave us a small case study about Youtube which I presented on behalf of my group and honestly it was a really fun session and learnt too many things from my classmates. For the last part of the session, we continued doing the Excel Timesheet from last week with new formulas and many more rules for this Software.
Overall it was a really interesting and dynamic session in which I got the chance to interact with other classmates and learn more things day by day.
Week 4 Group Discussion.-
On Tuesday evening we had the lab session with Ms. Susie. To quickly start off, the teacher gave us 15 minutes to discuss in our already made groups about our presentation. Unfortunately one of our team members, Richard was not able to attend the class, however we managed to take few decisions. Few days ago we had already decided to do our presentation about a Law Firm our group member Charlene told us about as she knows the owner of it. So we decided to go for this one as it would be much easier to interview them.
